BVB crisis meeting could hand Rangers Europa League boost

Rangers have been handed a potential Europa League boost with Borussia Dortmund struggling with form.

The German giants fell nine points behind Bayern Munch in their fight for the title as Dortmund lost 3-2 against Hertha Berlin on Saturday (18 December).

After the defeat on the weekend, Marco Rose questioned the attitude some of his players.

Rangers

Striker sensation, Erling Haaland, commitment to the club has been put under a microscope since Dortmund crashed out of the Champions League with a huge move on the cards for the Norwegian.

Michael Zorc has called for a meeting with Haaland to clear the air as the with the German football executive hoping to get Dortmund back on track ahead of their last 16 tie with Rangers [Daily Record].

He said: “We can only function as a team with everyone pulling in the same direction and we have to work harder on that.

“We will have a team meeting to look ahead for the future.

“Unfortunately, we go into our winter break with the smell of defeat clinging to us and that’s a horrible feeling until our next game.”

Hope

Rangers were unfortunate to draw one of – if not – the most difficult team in the Europa league. If the current state of affairs doesn’t give them a lift, nothing will.

Haaland isn’t happy at BVB and certainly doesn’t want to be playing Europa League football. If he hasn’t moved on by the first leg, his fading commitment may avalanche as his agent Mino Raiola continues to flirt with big money deals with some of the world’s best.

Dortmund are not unbeatable; they have lost five times in the Bundesliga this season – something Van Bronckhorst can use to boost his players confidence.

The Bears have fallen short at this stage of the competition in 2 consecutive seasons. Although, if they manage to a positive result back to Glasgow after the first at the Signal Iduna Park the tie would be wide open.

The Ibrox will be electric for the second leg with the fans looking to give Rangers that extra lift as the look to cause European upset.
