Neil McCann left baffled by the penalty incident in Rangers v Dundee United
Neil McCann was stunned by Scott McCann’s handball for Dundee United against Rangers.
The Gers were struggling to break the away side down until the Dundee United man made a shocking error that allowed James Tavernier to slam a penalty home [18 December].
The Bears then hung on despite late pressure to move seven points clear of Celtic.

The former Gers man offered his thoughts on the penalty on Rangers TV [via the Daily Record].
He said: “A really strange one.
“We get the benefit of the angle from behind the goal, which is probably the clearest one, but when this is whipped in, I’ve no idea what Scott is doing.
“He tucks his left hand in behind his back. His left is tucked in, but his right is flapping (laughs).
“No question it’s a penalty, and no question about the quality of the spot-kick from James.”
Very odd.
The whole thing was very strange, but the Gers won’t mind as they definitely weren’t at their best.
However, they did what good sides do and won when they were playing poorly.
They were also relatively solid at the back, and they appear to be getting better and better at keeping the opposition out.
People might mock the Gers because their goal came from a penalty, but McCann is right to laugh at the player because we have no idea what he was attempting to do.

It was just a shambles from the Dundee United player, and in the end, he cost his team.
However, the Bears won’t care; they look back to their imperious best under the guidance of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
So, it remains to be seen if they can keep up this run, but you would hope that they can.
