BT Sport pundit reacts to John Hartson ‘shock’ tweet after Rangers win v Dundee United

Rangers secured a 1-0 victory against Covid-hit Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.

James Tavernier scored from the spot in the 71st minute to seal all three points for the Gers.

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson shared his reaction after Rangers were awarded the penalty, to which Alex Rae responded.

Hartson wrote on Twitter: “There’s a shock!”

Rae replied: “Wit (What) happened big man?”

Insipid performance

Hartson was being sarcastic here. Rangers recently secured a 1-0 victory against Hibernian earlier this month, and the former Celtic hero is trying to suggest here the champions are being favoured here.

However, Rae was quick to respond, as it was a clear penalty.

It was a clear handball from Scott McMann and it allowed captain Tavernier to step up and dispatch to Trevor Carson’s right.

Carson was a busy man on the night as he made some fine saves. The likes of Alfredo Morelos, John Lundstram and Glen Kamara also came close to scoring.

However, Rangers were largely pedestrian, especially in the first half, and only the introduction of Scott Wright added spark to their attack.

Wright was superb during the game. The visitors nearly grabbed a late equaliser with teenager Darren Watson headed off the bar in injury time.

Giovanni Van Bronkhorst revealed after the match (18 December) that it was a good result but not a good performance from his side.
