Alan Nixon shares latest update on Rangers-linked Joe Rothwell

Sun journalist Alan Nixon has suggested on his personal Twitter account that Rangers may have cooled their interest in Joe Rothwell.

Back in October, The Sun reported that the Gers were heavily interested in signing the midfielder in January.

It was claimed that Rangers have beaten their rivals in the race to sign the former Oxford United star.

Nixon has suggested that he hasn’t heard of anything about the transfer development since Giovanni van Bronckhorst became the Gers manager.

He wrote on Twitter: “Not heard that since managerial change…”

Cooled interest?

Have Rangers cooled their interest in Rothwell?

It is highly likely that he emerged as a top target for Rangers when Steven Gerrard was in charge. The former Gers manager probably wanted him to join Ibrox, as he wanted to add depth in midfield.

Rothwell will be a free agent in the summer, and he can sign a pre-contract with a non-English club at the turn of the year.

It is not sure how Van Bronckhorst will approach the transfer market in January, but definitely, he will have some targets in mind.

Above all, Rangers could lose some of the key players in January. Although the Gers are likely to keep hold of their star players, they could still sell if the price is right.

The rumours have cooled down a bit after Gerrard left the club to join Aston Villa, and it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman makes an attempt to secure his signature in January.
