BBC man blasts Rangers for struggling in front of goal v Dundee United

Rangers secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday, with James Tavernier’s penalty making all the difference.

It was not a very convincing performance from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men today (18 December), and BBC journalist Clive Lindsay was not impressed with their lack of attacking prowess, slamming them for it on his match feed.

Prior to their skipper’s 71st-minute goal, the Gers had just a shot on target, and that was far from eye-catching.

Lindsay wrote: “Rangers are cranking up the pressure, but they are yet to register a shot on target in this second half.

In fact, the Ibrox side have managed just one the entire game. Not the stuff of league leaders.”

Lucky

Alfredo Morelos thought he had doubled his side’s lead later only for his effort to be rightly ruled out for offside.

The defending champions could not hit their recent standard, struggling to get going in front of goal.

Despite having a depleted squad due to coronavirus complications, Dundee Utd went toe to toe with them and would have been deserving of a point had the match ended in a draw.

The visitors had a very late effort hit the bar, and Rangers were without any doubt lucky to have picked up all three points after that lackluster performance.

The result saw them go seven points clear at the top of the table, but Celtic have a game in hand and will be looking to win and keep up their chase.

Rangers did not have to play well before getting all three points, and that has been a recurring theme all season.

GvB would have seen some of his side’s shortcomings and weaknesses, and hopefully, the board will back him in the January transfer window.
