Rangers will terminate Josh McPake loan in January, two more clubs want him – Daily Record

Rangers will cancel Josh McPake’s loan deal in January due to a lack of game-time at Morecambe, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reports that Stephen Robinson, who’s in charge of the English League One strugglers, has grown frustrated by continual injury issues for the 20-year-old winger.

It is understood that numerous clubs are queuing up to sign McPake on loan for the rest of the season with Bradford and Oldham joining the likes of Salford, Tranmere and Barrow in pursuit of the Scotland Under-21 international.

Robinson’s former club Motherwell, as well as Ross County, are also said to be keeping tabs on McPake.

Much-needed minutes

McPake’s suffered an unfortunate first half of this season.

The promising youngster has only managed to make seven appearances in all competitions for Morecambe, with his last coming on 25 September in their 3-3 draw with Accrington Stanley in England’s League One.

McPake took the step up to the third-tier of English football in the summer following an impressive loan spell in League Two last term with Harrogate Town.

He may well be ready for the step up but that injury has held him back and there’s a suggestion he may need to test himself in League Two once more.

All of the English clubs reported to be keen on McPake are either mid-table or struggled in League Two so he’s bound to get minutes there if he goes.

But at the age of 20, does he want to be playing at such a low level when he’s already proven himself there?

If Motherwell or Ross County come in with an offer and promise to play McPake regularly then we’d rather he stayed in the Scottish Premiership with them.
