Jermain Defoe wowed by Joe Aribo performance in Rangers 2-0 win v St. Johnstone

Rangers secured a 2-0 win over St. Johnstone at Ibrox last night, and Jermain Defoe was blown away by the performance of Joe Aribo.

Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent grabbed the goals on Wednesday (15 December) night as Giovanni van Bronckhorst continued his perfect start to life in the Premiership as the Bears boss, but it was how the Nigerian international midfielder controlled the game that caught the eyes of the veteran striker, and he took to his personal Instagram account to react.

Aribo was influential once again as he has been in recent weeks, and the Dutchman will be hoping he can keep up that form for the rest of 2021-22.

Defoe uploaded a clip of the Rangers ace, commenting on it: “He’s doing it again. Oh my days.”

Massive player

Aribo had another stormer last night, and the decision-makers at Ibrox simply cannot afford to lose him anytime soon.

He has ticked so many boxes of recent, and more Premier League suitors will definitely come calling.

Rangers were aggressive on the ball and they regularly found Aribo in pockets of space.

With the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in January, GvB could be set to lose one of his most important players for a number of games despite the winter break.

That could affect the Light Blues, and with doubts over whether the tournament would go ahead due to Covid-19, the Premiership giants will be hoping it gets postponed.

The clash with Celtic at Parkhead on January 2 could have a huge say on the title race, but the former Charlton Athletic star would miss it if AFCON goes ahead as planned.

Rangers need him for such an important game, and they will also have to quickly hand him a new deal in the coming months as he enters the final 18 months of his contract.
