Dutch report says Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has ‘washed away bad taste’ at Rangers

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has “washed away the bad taste” surrounding Rangers’ managerial situation, according to a new report in Holland.

GvB, as he has been dubbed by Gers fans, has overseen four straight wins in the Scottish Premiership since replacing Steven Gerrard as manager last month.

He was also in charge of the Europa League clashes against Sparta Prague and Lyon, taking his record to six wins and one draw from his first seven games in charge.

According to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, the ex-Arsenal and Barcelona left-back has “exceeded all expectations” at the club and “washed away the bad taste” left after Gerrard’s departure to Aston Villa.

There was plenty of optimism surrounding his arrival in November, although there were some reservations following the struggles he endured while in China with Guangzhou.

The reports claims that Van Bronckhorst has “stepped out of the shadow” of title winning Gerrard, and there is a clear bond with players like Alfredo Morelos who they say looks “more mature and sharp” under the new boss.

Fresh start

Van Bronckhorst’s arrival has been a breath of fresh air at Ibrox, after a stuttering run of form under Gerrard prior to his departure for the Premier League.

With the team finding their rhythm again and getting back to good form, they are now four points clear at the top of the league table.

The biggest test of GvB’s reign so far will come on January 2nd when they take on Celtic in his first ‘Old Firm’ derby as manager, with a victory sure to completely wipe out any lasting memories of the previous regime from the front of fans’ minds.

Players have been given a new lease of life under his management and there is a feeling of a fresh slate with some players, while he seems to be stamping his authority on the squad too.

January will be a big month but Rangers fans can rest easy knowing that it looks like they made the perfect appointment to steady the ship and continue their progress.
