He is believed to be one of Steven Gerrard’s priorities and the need to sign him has gone up since Nakamba’s injury against Liverpool.

It was inevitable that Gerrard’s move to the Premier League would come back to haunt Rangers in more ways than one.

He’s certainly built his system around certain players and would like to do the same at Villa.

Kamara was a mainstay in his team and understood his role perfectly.

He was greatly admired by the former manager who waxed lyrical over him on countless occasions in press conferences and interviews.

Ahead of the EUROs, the Scotsman quoted him as saying, “He’s a magnificent player; we appreciate what he does. He’s progressed, he’s moved on well, he’s just a fantastic kid to work with. He does everything right and I’d like to see him rewarded.”

Since then, Kamara has gone on to sign an extension at Ibrox so any sale would mean that the Birmingham outfit would have to pay a heavy premium.

However, given their billionaire owner, that is not something beyond them and if there’s a will and a clear demand from Gerrard, Kamara may be on his way out.
