St Johnstone Super Fan previews Rangers game

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Super Fans on upcoming Rangers games. Ahead of the Rangers’ game against St Johnstone in the SPFL, we caught up with St Johnstone Super Fan @StJohnstoneFans.

Rangers play St Johnstone tonight in the Scottish Premiership as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has had an incredible start to life at Ibrox, and the Gers have won every league game so far.

They will be looking to extend that record against a St Johnstone side that are rooted to the bottom of the table and are in awful form.

Therefore, we caught up with @StJohnstoneFans, who gave us the lowdown ahead of the match.

What did you make of the first game?

I thought it was quite an entertaining game in the end, especially for the neutral! We were really compact and managed to hit on the break perfectly, but the penalty changed things and Rangers just turned it up a notch – perfectly summarised by Tavernier’s goal, which was magnificent.

How have St Johnstone been since the first game?

Certainly been really up and down since then, both in terms of results and performances. We won three of the next four following on from that day and were actually quite unlucky to lose to a contentious penalty in the other game. Then came the October international break, and we’ve won one from nine since then, turning in a couple of dreadful performances in that time.

What have you made of van Bronckhorst’s start?

Really impressed with the subtle changes he’s made, such as in midfield, which appear (from the outside) to have freshened things up a little bit. It looks as though Morelos is starting to get that nasty side back to his game too, which is always a bonus as it’s box office!

Who are you worried about in this Rangers side? Has it changed since last time?

I could probably say any one of a number of players for this, if I’m being honest! Aribo is the player bang in form right now, so whilst it’s exciting to get to see him in the flesh again, I’d prefer him to have no impact whatsoever! I think last time I would’ve gone for Aribo, Kent or Hagi, so pretty much no change there.

If you could sign anyone from this Rangers team, who would it be?

Once again, I could probably say any one of a number, but we probably need somebody who can create something from nothing, so I’m probably looking towards Kent, Hagi, etc., again!

Who should Rangers worry about?

We have a new signing, Viv Solomon-Otabor, who I imagine will feature at some point with Middleton being unavailable. Albeit he’s only played a handful of minutes, he looks to be the one player with something a little bit different for us in terms of being direct and willing to go by players.

Score prediction?

1-0 Rangers, unfortunately!

So, it looks as if our St Johnstone Super Fan thinks that this game will be a tight one.

We can’t wait for this match to get underway, and it will be intriguing to see how van Bronckhorst goes about this one.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have joined a growing number of clubs against African nations calling up their players for the AFCON.
