Rangers v Dundee United set to go ahead despite positive COVID test at Terrors

Rangers’ clash against Dundee United is still expected to go ahead on Saturday despite one Terrors player getting a positive COVID test, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reports that the Dundee United have cancelled training ahead of their trip to Ibrox this weekend as they wait for a PCR test result.

It is understood that the United squad had a Christmas party in Newcastle at the weekend but their game against Rangers is unlikely to be postponed on Saturday.

Sky Sports add that “SPFL rules state teams must have 13 fit players including a goalkeeper for a match to take place and further to that, 10 of the players must be over 18-years old”.

Momentum

We don’t want the game to be called off.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are in great form right now and we don’t want any postponements to halt the momentum he’s currently gathering.

Since arriving at Ibrox, the Gers are unbeaten under van Bronckhorst’s management so we really want to keep seeing the team play all the way up until the Old Firm on 2 January and the winter break that follows.

We play St Johnstone on Wednesday night, followed by meetings with Dundee United, St Mirren, Aberdeen and Celtic.

It’s a decent fixture list for the Christmas period and we don’t want to see anything get pushed back and create congestion further down the line when the players will have a break in January.

Hopefully, Dundee United don’t suffer an outbreak between now and Saturday and we’re crossing our fingers that the player who’s tested positive is fine and not suffering from any symptoms.

Of course, if more positive tests are reported then the game on Saturday will be in doubt.

But, as of right now, it does seem as though it’ll be going ahead.

In other Rangers news, Sky Sports have shared what van Bronckhorst has been told about the club’s finances ahead of January.
