Rangers forward Kemar Roofe confirms injury setback and promises to come back stronger

Rangers forward Kemar Roofe has confirmed on social media that he is set for a spell on the sidelines through injury.

The 28-year-old was absent for the 2-0 win over Hearts on Sunday afternoon (12 December) after being taken off in the second half against Lyon in the Europa League last week (9 December).

He has played 20 games for Rangers this season, scoring 10 goals.

Kemar Roofe will be one of plenty to depart Ibrox this summer

Taking to Instagram to share some Christmas-themed snaps, Roofe sent supporters a message after confirming his injury.

He said: “Soaking in the festive spirit to help me with my set back but you already know I’ll be fighting to come back a better version of myself.”

Frustrating

This is not the news that Rangers wanted to hear.

Although he has not been a regular starter this season, Roofe has still made a big contribution and has averaged a goal every two games.

Before last weekend, no player in the Rangers squad had scored more goals than the Jamaican international in 2021-22.

The good news is that Alfredo Morelos seems to be getting back to his best, while Fashion Sakala is also growing in confidence by the game.

Nonetheless, it is frustrating that Roofe is back on the sidelines after also missing periods of last season with calf and thigh problems.

Hopefully he is not out for too long, although it sounds as if it will be at least a few weeks until we see him back in action at Ibrox – perhaps a return after the Scottish Premiership’s winter break is a realistic timeframe.
