Barry Ferguson blown away by Rangers winger Scott Wright

Barry Ferguson has been left impressed with the performance of Rangers winger Scott Wright during Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst made a lot of changes to the side in the 1-1 draw against Lyon.

Despite being a dead-rubber tie, it was an opportunity for some of the players to show their quality, and Wright grabbed his chances with both hands.

Rangers

“I’ve always liked Scott as a player and I thought it was a good bit of business when they moved to bring him down from Pittodrie early last January,” wrote Ferguson in his column for the Daily Record.

“There’s no doubt he’s got the ability he just needs to do it consistently.

“He’s pretty similar to Ryan Kent. He’s not at the level of the former Liverpool winger just yet because Kent has got a substantial number of games under his belt.

“But he’s got the potential in my opinion to be just as effective because he can go past players, create chances and score, as he showed against Lyon.”

Spot on

Ferguson is absolutely spot on here.

These are early days for Van Bronckhorst and he needs to check all his players closely before making a call about chopping and changing in the summer.

Wright has a big potential. In that way, a comparison with Ryan Kent has been made here, but Ferguson is right that the former Liverpool winger has more experience.

Rangers

The 24-year-old enjoyed a fantastic career with Aberdeen before he joined Rangers in the January transfer window of 2021.

As of now, he has only shown flashes of brilliance. He can create chances and has the ability to dribble past players.

The only thing missing from his game at the moment is consistency.

He is at the prime age of his career where he is no longer seen as a talent. This is the perfect time for him to show his quality to his manager and force him to play regularly.

Rangers will face Hearts in their next Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday.
