Rangers set to launch bid for Anderlecht star Francis Amuzu
Rangers want to sign 22-year-old Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu, according to Ghana Soccer Net.
Ghanian-born Amuzu, who has represented Belgium at youth level, is expected to leave Anderlecht in the January transfer window and is on the radar of Rangers,
Further to Ghana Soccer Net‘s report, Belgian news outlet Voetbal24 claim the Gers are expected to launch a bid for the attacker who scored for Vincent Kompany’s side in this season’s inaugural Europa Conference League (12 August, v Laci).
Amuzu’s contract with Anderlecht expires in the summer of 2024 and contains a £3.4million release clause, according to SportsWorldGhana
Amuzu’s statistics are not outlandish but he appears to have caught the eye of Ibrox chiefs, who now have links to Belgium in the shape of Zeb Jacobs, who joined the Gers from Royal Antwerp earlier this week (8 December).
Jacobs was Talent Co-ordinator and Head of Development at the Belgia side’s academy and will now assume the role of Head of Coaching in the Rangers Academy set-up.
Jacobs will surely have great knowledge of Amuzu and can offer further analysis on the forward.
Rangers currently have Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala, Scott Wright and Ianis Hagi as wingers in their squad, though the latter may feel his talents are utilised better in the middle under new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
That could open a space for Amuzu to fill, and at £3.4million, the Gers could land a bargain.
Money may not be limitless at Ibrox, but there could be scope to do clever business, particularly if any big-name stars are sold.
In other Rangers news, an ex-Ibrox boss plots is plotting a January swoop for this Steven Gerrard signing.
