Nicola Sturgeon makes Scottish football admission which will impact Rangers

Nicola Sturgeon failed to rule out stadium closures due to the Omicron variant, a decision that would impact all teams including Rangers.

According to the Scotsman, Celtic and Hibs will be impacted a great deal as they host Rangers and Hearts respectively on January 2nd and 3rd.

There is a possibility that the Old Firm derby could be impacted severely with regards to the attendance of fans.

When asked how the spread of the new variant would impact Scottish football, Sturgeon responded that further restrictions were a “last resort”.

She said, “I’m not going to tell you what Cabinet might consider on Tuesday because I don’t know yet. This will depend on the continuing analysis of the data.

“I’m really, really mindful that two years in if we’re asking the public to do anything else then is it the right thing? Is it likely to have the biggest impact?”

Not this again

Another Old Firm played behind closed doors is going to be such a letdown for both sets of fans.

Having seen most games on the television last season, there has been so much excitement of going back to the stands.

Derbies like the Old Firm are unreal watching in the stadiums and one cannot enjoy the vibe of the game seeing from a distant location.

Sturgeon needs to ensure that proper tracking is in place in case this variant keeps spreading.

But we do not think that stopping fans from attending football matches is the solution.

Lockdowns have already impacted Scottish clubs a great deal over the last year and doing this again would have devastating effects.

We hope that common sense prevails this time around.
