Alan Brazil takes Old Firm swipe at Rangers after Lyon lockout controversy

Alan Brazil has mocked Rangers after the recent controversy surrounding the potential lockout of supporters for their clash in Lyon.

Rangers face Lyon on Thursday evening (9 December) with both sides already through to the Europa League knockout stage.

There was drama this week, though, when Rangers supporters were initially barred from attending due to a local festival of light taking place in the city.

The lockout was overturned on Wednesday (9 December), though it has caused great disruption to Rangers fans who have had to cancel or amend their plans.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Thursday morning, Celtic-mad pundit Brazil took the opportunity to take a dig at the Light Blues.

“It sounds a bit like the Old Firm, Rangers making the rules up as well, to be honest,” Brazil said.

Any opportunity…

Brazil gleefully took up the opportunity to swipe at the Gers after the Lyon controversy this week.

It’s something that has caused great consternation among the Bears faithful with their plans potentially scuppered before Wednesday’s final verdict.

Indeed, it’s something that should concern European football in general as it was another show of great ineptitude by one of the continent’s leading clubs.

Moving the goalposts so close to matchday was a dismissive gesture in the direction of fans who spend their hard-earned money following their club all over Europe.

Common sense eventually prevailed, luckily.

Brazil has drawn parallels with the Old Firm games after Rangers withdrew the Celtic allocation at Ibrox in August after the Hoops offered no guarantees for the reverse fixture in January.

That’s a different scenario altogether, though, based on perceived unfairness, and there was nowhere near as much travel and planning involved for supporters as there is for a trip to France.
