Rangers make highest losses in Premiership, twice as much as Celtic

Rangers made twice as many post-tax losses as Celtic for the financial year 2020/21 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Swiss Ramble, Scottish clubs aim to break even financially as that helps them run a sustainable model, but last year was an unprecedented one.

Gers’ £24.2million post-tax loss is the most in the Scottish Premiership, and almost nearly twice as much as Celtic’s £12.6million.

Bad look

Rangers are the biggest club in Scotland so when there’s a crisis, there’s no surprise that they’re hit the hardest.

However, having lost twice as much as their arch rivals Celtic is not a good look and can affect them down the line.

The gulf between the two clubs may not be as wide as it was last season and things like these are only going to make it tougher for Gers to establish their supremacy.

Whether a changing financial model is on the cards is anyone’s guess, but something certainly needs to change for things to improve here.

Rangers

It could mean selling a few key assets and using those funds to buy cheaper reinforcements or a change in the sponsorship structures.

The club are far from a crisis, but such things must not continue to happen at any cost.

Hopefully, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on board with any restructuring that takes place, but as a former player, he’ll know that it may be on the cards.
