Rangers left-back Borna Barisic set to snub Premier League interest

Rangers defender Borna Barisic has reportedly committed his future to his club despite growing interest from a host of Premier League clubs.

According to the Daily Star (05/12/2021, pg. 44), the 29-year-old has decided to snub interest from other sides to focus on his Gers career.

Former Gers boss Steven Gerrard also wanted him at Aston Villa, but will now have to look for alternatives. [Sunday Mirror]

Great news

We feared a mass exodus in terms of players when Gerrard joined Villa, but that does not seem likely, at the moment.

Barisic was one of the players most at risk of leaving and it’s wonderful news that he’s decided to stay.

The lure to join up with his old boss would have been tempting, given the pull of the Premier League, but he knows that he’s got tremendous appreciation at Ibrox and would not get the same at Villa Park.

Whether this would mean a contract extension and a pay rise, remains to be seen.

Rangers

By what we have seen of the player week in and week out, he clearly deserves it for his loyalty as well as his performances.

He still has two and a half years left on his deal, so maybe a hike in his salary is more plausible, at the moment.

Having played in all four of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s games thus far, it’s clear that the Dutchman rates the player.
