Nottingham Forest enter race to sign Rangers target John Souttar

EFL Championship side Nottingham Forest have reportedly entered the race to sign Rangers target and Hearts centre-back John Souttar.

According to Alan Nixon in The Sun (05/12/21, Pg. 59), they’re lining up the 25-year-old as a replacement in case Joe Worrall leaves the club in January.

The report claims that along with Gers, even Celtic are tracking the Scottish defender.

Must sign him

Connor Goldson’s future is currently up in the air and he seems no closer to signing a new deal.

If that is his stance until the end of the season, then it makes sense to cash in on him and sign someone in January.

The 28-year-old’s deal at the club runs out in the summer and Gers would not want to risk losing him on a free as that is not how they operate as a club.

Livingston’s assistant manager Marvin Bartley feels that Rangers, as well as Old Firm rivals Celtic, should look to sign Souttar, given his stellar displays at centre-back for club and country.

“His positioning was fantastic and that’s what he does seem like – a magnet – because he’s in the right position at the right time,” said Bartley, as quoted by Football Scotland.

Rangers

“Celtic and Rangers have to be looking at him. We’ve got the [Connor] Goldson situation at Rangers with his contract. You’ve got [Cameron] Carter-Vickers on loan at Celtic so he’s going to go back at the end of the season.”

Rangers must not let any club, let alone their rivals Celtic, get their hands on the Hearts defender.

If they are to go to that next level and become a regular in the Champions League, then they cannot lose out on players they have been targeted for a number of months.
