Rangers man Calvin Bassey wowed by GvB already

Calvin Bassey has heaped praise on new Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst and had a possible dig at Steven Gerrard.

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, the Nigerian defender hailed the Dutchman’s impact on training.

He also claimed that he was happy to have a fresh start after hinting that he perhaps wasn’t getting the game time he wanted under Gerrard.

He said: “I think the new boss has been amazing. As players, you just have to adapt, and we have really enjoyed it.

“When there is someone new in the building, you want to give your best. I was in and out of the team before, but now it is a clean slate for everyone.

“You want to show how good you are and what you can give. He has taken the level in training up, and hopefully, we are showing that in our performances.”

Bassey is loving life so far.

Since van Bronckhorst arrived, Bassey has started in all three games.

Meanwhile, under Gerrard, he only played seven times in the league, so you can see why he is loving life under van Bronckhorst.

The 21-year-old also definitely indicates that training has improved under the Dutchman, which you could say was another dig at Gerrard.

So, Bassey seems to be one player who is enjoying himself a lot more now that Gerrard has moved on, and it would be interesting to know which other players feel the same way.

Bassey is still young and looks to have a long and successful career ahead of him, so it has been good to see him involved for the first team more recently.

It is also clear that he is doing well and could become an important part of van Bronckhorst’s new Gers side.

Hopefully, he helps GvB keep up his 100% record later on today against Dundee FC.

In other Rangers news, Leon Balogun missed training earlier this week.
