Connor Goldson issued contract warning by Ross Wilson in Rangers AGM

In the recent Rangers AGM, Ross Wilson spoke about a contract structure at the club and that they were unlikely to change it for any player.

Connor Goldson is one of the main Gers players in the midst of a contract stand-off, and Wilson’s comments do not make good reading for his future at the Ibrox.

The English defender’s contract expires at the end of the season and he appears no closer to penning an extension.

At the AGM, the Scottish Sun quoted Wilson as saying, “We have a clear contract model here and a clear wage structure. Anybody that signs a contract with Rangers, I can assure you, they will sign a contract within that structure.

“We wouldn’t be prepared to break that structure at all because it’s important to us that we have a prudent way of working.”

This sends out a clear message to Goldson that the club is unlikely to cater their stance for him.

Should he want a deal that falls out of their current model, then there is a real risk that he leaves the club, either in January or in the summer.

The 28-year-old, who was labelled “fantastic” by Steven Gerrard in 2020 [Herald Scotland], has not seemed committed while speaking about his future either.

Recently, when asked about where he sees himself next season, he said, via Birmingham Live, “I haven’t really spoken to my agent or the club recently so I couldn’t tell you where it’s at.

“I’m just focused on the club, playing football and making sure this football club wins.”

This does not sound like someone who sees his long-term future at Rangers and the hierarchy must prepare to cash in on him and find an adequate replacement.
