Rangers trio included in WhoScored’s SPFL Team of the Week

Rangers trio Joe Aribo, James Tavernier and Borna Barisic have been included in WhoScored’s SPFL Team of the Week after the Bears beat Livingston 3-1.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst made it two wins from two in the dugout as his side brushed aside Livi at the Almondvale Stadium.

Midfielder Aribo scored the second goal of the game, while captain Tavernier provided assists for the other two goals netted by Scott Arfield and Fashion Sakala.

Not only were the pair named in the Team of the Week, they also ranked in the top five performers by WhoScored, with Aribo fourth with an 8.25 rating and Tavernier second with 8.71 [Sky Sports].

Well-deserved

Tavernier and Aribo fully merit their inclusions after impressive performances on Sunday afternoon.

Aribo continued his excellent form this season by netting his fourth goal of the campaign and what a goal it was.

With Alfredo Morelos laying the ball off to the Nigerian international on the edge of the box, Aribo struck it first time with his left foot, seeing it dip towards goal and cannon in off the crossbar.

The energy that the 25-year-old brings to Rangers’ midfield is vital to how van Bronckhorst sets the team up and he is undoubtedly one of the first names on the team sheet.

Meanwhile, Tavernier’s defensive displays may have gone off the boil slightly, but he continues to heavily contribute going forward.

Sunday was the third league game in a row in which the Rangers captain has registered two assists, taking his total for the season to 13 in all competitions.

Tavernier played a delightful ball over the top of the Livingston defence to set up Arfield’s early opener before delivering an out-swinging corner for substitute Sakala to head home in the second half.
