Andy Walker: Tavernier and Hagi unhappy with incident in Rangers win over Livingston

James Tavernier and Ianis Hagi failed to see the funny side of Rangers fans delaying the kick-off for the second half at Livingston on Sunday, according to Andy Walker.

Snowballs were thrown onto the pitch towards Livi goalkeeper Max Stryjek as the teams re-appeared for the second half at Almondvale.

While the Gers went on to dominate to second half and win 3-1, Walker was less than impressed with the fans causing both teams to wait around eight minutes as the snow was cleared.

“It doesn’t suit either club, really,” said Walker on Sky Sports Football during the delayed start to the second half.

Walker added: “The players don’t find it funny.

“I’m looking at Hagi, I’m looking at Tavernier and they look as though they just want to get on with the game.”

Embarrassing

While it’s fine to look back in hindsight and say that Rangers’ performance wasn’t hampered by the delay in starting the second half and that no players were injured from getting cold, it was a stupid thing to do.

Firstly, it causes yet another reason for rival fans to mock us. Why is it that a minority of our fans feel as though they can act however they please?

Secondly, the club could get punished for something like that. The behaviour of the fans genuinely had an effect on what was happening on the pitch by forcing the second half to be delayed by around eight minutes.

That was eight minutes of players standing around in freezing cold temperatures on a plastic pitch. Thank god Ryan Jack wasn’t playing otherwise we wouldn’t see him until the new year – in 2023.

It was stupid, childish and embarrassing behaviour that makes our fanbase look as though they’re a bunch of clowns.

Please, cut out this behaviour. There have been too many instances this season where we’ve made headlines so let’s cut it out and not give the mainstream media a reason to write about us.

In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd was floored by an “unbelievable” moment in the win over Livingston.
