Chris Sutton: Rangers fans ‘mightly worried’ over Connor Goldson despite 2-0 win v Sparta Prague

Chris Sutton has taken aim at Rangers defender Connor Goldson despite Thursday’s 2-0 win over Sparta Prague at Ibrox.

Speaking on BT Sport Scottish Football Extra [26/11/21], Sutton referred back to the 28-year-old’s comments after Sunday’s League Cup defeat to Hibernian.

“The bigger thing about the game last night was the attitude, especially when you go back a few days and Connor Goldson’s comments,” Sutton said.

“I mean, I’m not going to say scandalous comments but we want players to come and give authentic and honest interviews, but if you were a Rangers fan you would be mightily worried about the language used after the Hibs game.”

Fight returns?

Goldson suggested that Rangers had lost their heart and desire following last season’s Premiership triumph, but it looked like some of that was restored on Thursday as the Gers swept Sparta aside to return to winning ways.

Okay, the Czech side were poor and the home side did not have to be at their best in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first game in charge.

But there was pressure in attack, energy in midfield and bravery at the back – this was what made the Light Blues so hard to beat last season.

Goldson was not in the best form before Sunday and his reputation took an almighty battering following his ill-fated interview.

He has a lot to prove in order to restore that, but Thursday showed that there is still plenty of life in this Rangers team.

Some may have to be shipped out, but the nucleus of a good squad is still there, and there should be no lack of desire now.

In other Rangers news, three Premier League clubs want to sign this Gers player who was on the bench v Sparta Prague.
