Giovanni van Bronckhorst issues response to Goldson comments on Rangers

Giovanni van Bronckhorst shares that he has spoken to Connor Goldson regarding his comments after Rangers suffered a 3-1 defeat to Hibs on Sunday.

The English defender questioned the hunger in the Gers side and said that they felt they had lost the game despite being only two goals down at half-time.

He faced plenty of backlash for his comments from ex-pros as well as people in the media.

Addressing the issue, van Bronckhorst said, via the Scottish Sun, “Of course (I have spoken to him).

“It is obvious that the team wasn’t happy and wasn’t in a good place on Sunday.

“I think it was quite an emotional game for the team and the club being out of the cup after the game.”

Need a response

Goldson’s comments were unacceptable and he knows that he cannot be showing the dressing room in a bad light.

Even if the players were deflated, it’s hard to believe that they felt the game was over.

Maybe a few had doubts about their abilities to get back into the contest, but that is part and parcel of the game, and it’s not information that needs to be shared with the public.

Van Bronckhorst hopefully drove this message loud and clear to Goldson and any other players who doubted their and the team’s mentality.

Things need to change quickly and the Dutchman is responsible for not letting standards slip.

Steven Gerrard set the bar extremely high and it’s now on the players and the new manager to maintain that if not exceed it.
