Rangers could utilise Giovanni van Bronckhorst Arsenal link in January transfer window
Rangers could look to sign players from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s former club Arsenal in the January transfer window, Football.London suggests.
The Dutchman, a former Gunners defender, will be busy preparing his list of targets ahead of the market opening in just under six weeks’ time.
During his time at Highbury, van Bronckhorst played alongside Brazilian midfielder Edu, who is now Arsenal’s technical director.
Football.London claim that the new Bears manager could try to utilise this link and raid the Emirates Stadium in the new year.
The report proposes that Folarin Balogun, Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah could all make the switch to Ibrox.
Any deal for Balogun would be a loan move, but Chambers and Nketiah would be permanent signings, the report states.
This is all hypothetical transfer talk at the moment and there is no concrete suggestion that van Bronckhorst has any interest in making a move for Arsenal players.
That said, the players mentioned by Football.London play in positions that the Dutchman is likely to be looking to reinforce in January.
Alfredo Morelos has come in for criticism from supporters in recent weeks and there seems to always be speculation about his future, so another striker could be added.
It is looking increasingly unlikely that either Balogun or Nketiah are going to get the opportunities they desire at Arsenal, but at 20 and 22 years old respectively, they both still have plenty of potential that could be realised at Ibrox.
Meanwhile, the contracts of centre-back pair Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun expire at the end of the season, so 26-year-old Chambers – a Premier League regular at the end of last season – could act as the perfect replacement.
