Dirk Kuyt: Rangers job perfect next step for Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Dirk Kuyt believes that Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are a match made in heaven and that it would be interesting to see how he fares.

Gers moved quickly to hire the Dutchman, who’s also a former player, after Steven Gerrard left for the Aston Villa job.

While his first game in charge was a 3-1 loss against Hibs, he was not in the dugout for it as he watched on from the stands.

Discussing his appointment with the BBC, Kuyt said, “I think for Gio, it’s a great opportunity because at Feyenoord he had a very successful period where he was winning the league for the first time in 18 years.

“I think this is the perfect next step for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he will do it and Steven Gerrard, who’s also a good friend of mine, has done a great job.

“When I spoke to him about Glasgow Rangers, he always spoke very highly of the club and the supporters. I think he must be privileged to take the job.”

Nobody who’s watched a great deal of Dutch football or seen him work first-hand has had bad things to say about this appointment.

Everyone knew that replacing Gerrard was not going to be easy and the club had to nail the appointment.

Hiring van Bronckhorst sees Gers getting someone who’s got years of experience in the Netherlands and China.

He will also stick to the club’s principles of playing attacking football which is possession and counter-pressing oriented.

Hopefully what Kuyt says is true and the club get someone who can not only entertain the fans but also help Rangers reach that next level.
