Chris Sutton reacts instantly as Hibernian dump Rangers out of Scottish League Cup
Chris Sutton has mocked Rangers after they were beaten by Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst could only watch on from the stands as David McCallum’s side lost 3-1 at the hands of the Edinburgh club.
Martin Boyle’s first-half hat-trick ruined any chance of the Gers progressing to the final to play Celtic and Sutton was quick to react on Twitter.
“Congratulations to Hibs. Comfortable win,” said the ex-Celtic striker.
“Treble off once again sadly for Rangers…”
We deserve every bit of criticism possible for what was a totally abject display against Hiberian.
Boyle’s hat-trick sealed the game and all three goals were the result of awful, rotten defending.
What was James Tavernier doing for both of the first two goals? What was Connor Goldson playing at for the second one? And why was Steven Davis being so clumsy and taking a risk to give away the penalty?
Van Bronckhorst might be wishing he never took the job based on that honking performance because there’s so much work to be done in time for the clash with Sparta Prague on Thursday.
We have to win that game otherwise van Bronckhorst’s start to life as Steven Gerrard’s successor will be made tough by media scepticism and a potential effect on the club’s league form.
One thing that is unthinkable this season is failing to win the Premiership for a second season in a row.
In other Rangers news, Sir Kenny Dalglish expects van Bronckhorst to make this fringe player one of his key men.
