TalkSPORT moots van Bronckhorst using Rangers as stepping stone for Arsenal
TalkSPORT has mooted the idea that Giovanni van Bronckhorst may be using Rangers as a stepping stone to get himself closer to his dream job at Arsenal.
Van Bronckhorst, 46, was announced as the Gers’ new manager on Thursday, bringing a week-long search to an end.
Steven Gerrard preceded van Bronckhorst and during his stay at Ibrox, there was always a discussion about him one day heading off to Liverpool. Of course, he’s at relegation-threatened Aston Villa now.

But talkSPORT has used old quotes from van Bronckhorst to suggest that he may have one eye on Arsenal during his time at Ibrox.
Speaking in 2018, the ex-Gers and Gunners player said:
“As a player, I had dreams and as a coach I have the same. Every coach wants to be involved in the big competitions.
“My ambitions are clear, but I also know that in football you can have ambitions but you never know how your career will proceed.”

Not this again
If there’s one thing that we didn’t really like during Gerrard’s reign at Ibrox was that there was also speculation lingering over a potential future move to Liverpool.
When you look back, it wasn’t right.
Gerrard was the Rangers manager, not some youth prospect coming up through the Liverpool academy who was on loan at Ibrox. He was the most important figure at the Glasgow club.
Now than van Bronckhorst has been officially hired as Gerrard’s replacement, we cannot have something lingering over his head too that makes the Gers out as some kind of stepping stone.
Luckily, we don’t think that will be the case.
Van Bronckhorst isn’t a legend of English football, for starters.
He did very well in his playing days at Arsenal and he may well have his sights set on managing them at some point in the future.
But will the speculation swirl around quite how it did with Gerrard and Liverpool? We really don’t think it will just because while Gio is a star in our eyes, he isn’t quite the global icon Gerrard is.
In other Rangers news, last-ditch administration issues have been mooted for the swoop to hire Gio.
