Roy Makaay expected to sign Rangers contract today after van Bronckhorst appointment
Roy Makaay is expected to sign a contract today (Friday) to join Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s new backroom staff at Rangers, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reports that Makaay, 46, is still waiting at his home in the Netherlands for the relevant paperwork to make him van Bronckhorst’s assistant at Ibrox.
It is understood that if all goes well, Makaay could join van Bronckhorst in the stands at Hampden on Sunday for the League Cup semi-final clash against Hibernian.

Brilliant hire
Makaay is someone who played for a lot of top teams during his playing days and his coaching spell at Feyenoord, plus history with van Brockhorst, means he’s perfect for this job at Ibrox.
The former Netherlands striker played for Bayern Munich, Feyenoord and Deportivo La Coruna at their height, winning the La Liga title during his time there.
After his playing career ended, Makaay spent a lot of time working with the youth set-up and the senior side at Feyenoord.
He also worked alongside van Bronckhorst there.
Makaay is someone who our players will look up to and will hopefully get players like Alfredo Morelos firing on all cylinders.
It remains to be seen who else will join the Gio revolution at Ibrox but we’re very excited to see Makaay become the first man to join his backroom staff.
Steven Gerrard had a really good team here at Ibrox but we hope that what van Bronckhorst can produce is way better.
Time will tell and while they might not have much bearing on the clash against Hibs this weekend, the Sparta Prague fixture next week in the Europa League is an absolutely massive one.
In other Rangers news, this senior player may be frozen out by van Bronckhorst now he’s arrived at Ibrox.
