Robin van Persie reacts after Rangers appoint Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has reacted after Rangers confirmed the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst yesterday.

The 46-year-old will replace Steven Gerrard – who joined Aston Villa last week – subject to a work permit.

Van Bronckhorst will be in the stands to watch this weekend’s clash against Hibernian, but he won’t take charge of the squad.

Gio has become the 17th manager of this iconic club. Rangers spoke with several other candidates for this role, but the Dutchman was always their first-choice target.

Van Persie has shared a nice message for him – “Good luck mate” – on Instagram which was shared by Van Bronckhorst on his IG story.

Perfect

While there were other deserving candidates like Frank Lampard, the appointment of Van Bronckhorst makes a lot of sense.

The Dutchman was a former player at Rangers and he knows the club inside out. He knows the culture and the pressure to deliver.

He enjoyed a glittering playing career, having played for Arsenal and Barcelona apart from Rangers, and will command instant respect from the players.

As a manager, Gio has got some experience at the top level. Under his management, Feyenoord won their first Eredivisie title in 18 years. He went on to win two Dutch Cups and two Super Cups as well.

Gio is not obsessed with tactics, but he is a progressive thinking manager. He prefers an attacking brand of football, and is most likely to continue with the 4-3-3 system at the club – a continuation from the Gerrard era.

In other Rangers news, last-ditch administration issues have been mooted for the swoop to hire Gio.
