Guillem Balague shares brilliant insight on Gio van Bronckhost’s tactical approach

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has shared fascinating insight on Rangers new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst on the Football Daily podcast.

Rangers appointed the 46-year-old as their new manager. He replaced Steven Gerrard who left the club to join Aston Villa.

The former Feyenoord manager is a favourite among the fans having won league titles with Rangers as a player.

Balague has suggested that Gio always loves to discuss football at length but he is not obsessed about the game. He lives a simple life and brings that normality to his management.

He adds that Gio is not obsessed with tactics either. He is a forward-thinking manager but most importantly he loves to work with what he has got.

“He always discusses football in detail but it never felt to me that he is obsessed about the game,” said Balague on Football Daily.

“As a manager he has brought this normality to decisions. He is not obsessed about tactics. He thinks it is important to deal with what you’ve got. He is flexible as a coach and manager.”

Ideal manager

Based on what Balague has said (who has observed him closely) Rangers couldn’t have appointed a better manager at this stage.

He is a “flexible” manager who is ready to adapt to the situation. He believes in attacking football and wants to win a game at any cost.

More than the tactics, he appears to be someone who works on getting the best out of his players.

Rangers are operating on tight finances. In fact, it is running on losses, and Gio could be forced to sell some of our star players before we can look to rebuild again.

This is something that Rangers board must have conveyed to the Dutchman. He is that kind of manager who would be happy to work with limited resources, and still get the best out of it.

At the moment, this is ideal for us, considering our finances.

In other Rangers news, Michael Mols has sent a message to the Gers amid speculation he’s going to be on Gio’s new coaching team.
