Peter Martin delivers verdict on Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst potential deal

Rangers are yet to appoint their new manager but if the widespread reports are to be believed, Giovanni van Bronckhorst could become the new Gers manager within a few days.

The Scottish champions have held talks with several candidates following the departure of Steven Gerrard, but it seems Gio, their former player, is now emerging as favourites for this role.

The PLZ Football Show host Peter Martin has suggested that while Gio is a “red-hot” favourite for this role, it is taking time to get the deal done.

Fabrizio Romano also claimed yesterday that the 46-year-old Dutchman has held positive talks with Rangers, and his appointment is a serious possibility.

Martin has suggested that agreeing to wages won’t be a problem for the Dutchman, but sorting out the backroom members is probably taking time than initially expected.

“It’s taking a wee while. I don’t think wages would be a problem for him. Would the sticking point be getting his backroom team or maybe the fact that he would have a vision that would need a substantial amount of money,” said Martin on PLZ Football Show.

Major sticking point

Rangers are taking their time to find the right successor for the club and bringing van Bronckhorst back at Ibrox will be a smart decision.

Martin is absolutely spot on here. Rangers financial situation has been well documented. The Gers are currently running on losses, and the incumbent manager may have to sell some of his star players to balance the books.

Reaching an agreement with Gio’s wages will not be a big issue. However, any new manager wants to bring in a new system, his own choice of players, and a vision to improve the club.

Are Rangers financially capable of matching Gio’s vision? That could be a major sticking point.

However, it seems, an agreement in principle has been reached, and it’s only a matter of time that he become the next manager of this iconic football club.

Rangers will face Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup clash on Sunday.

In other Rangers news, a Celtic director has apologised for what he said about the Gers in an obituary for Walter Smith.
