Kevin Thomson mooted as potential arrival in Rangers dugout

Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains in pole position to become the next Rangers manager, but as of now, no formal agreement has been reached yet.

The 46-year-old has held positive talks with the Gers, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming a deal could be struck soon.

Peter Martin, the popular broadcaster, has suggested that agreeing to Gio’s wages won’t be a problem. However, sorting out the backroom staff is equally important.

According to reports from the Daily Record, van Bronckhorst looks set to be without Jean-Paul van Gastel at Ibrox.

Former Ibrox heroes – Neil McCann and Kevin Thomson – have been “mooted as potential arrivals” in the Rangers dugout.

The Dutchman, who is the former assistant of Gio, is currently the manager of Guangzhou City, and he may not be willing to head to Glasgow.

Van Brockhorst took Van Gastel with him to China as his assistant. However, when he left, Van Gastel took over.

They share a very good bonding, having previously worked together as Feyenoord. It comes as no surprise that Gio wants him at Ibrox.

Thomson would be a brilliant addition as well. He is the current Kelty Hearts manager and has the required coaching experience.

He had a successful stint as a player at Rangers between 2007 and 2010, and he is doing brilliantly at New Central Park.

The 37-year-old recently put a cryptic message on Twitter potentially hinting that he could be taking up a coaching role with the first team.

Kelty are unbeaten and ten points clear at the top of League Two, and Thomson would be a brilliant addition to the coaching set-up at Ibrox.
