David Edgar: Still no indication Rangers manager appointment is imminent

Rangers may not announce Giovanni van Bronckhorst until Saturday as they close in on their new manager.

Ross Wilson has been leading the search and the club have kept tight-lipped regarding any major updates this week.

Walter Smith’s memorial service takes place tomorrow, and it was agreed that van Bronckhorst and manager news would be placed on the back-burner, and rightly so.

Speaking in his daily update on the Heart & Hand Patreon, Edgar shared that it could be made to wait until Saturday.

“As for when there’s no indication as of yet, Rangers have consistently played the same line for that which is Ross Wilson is leading the search and is very pleased with how it’s progressing,” he said.

“I think there was an assumption that it was going to be announced, it would have to be before the semi-final, it would have to be today because the club are not going to do it on Friday given that Walter Smith’s memorial service is taking place.”

Makes sense.

If van Bronckhorst isn’t announced this evening, then the news can wait.

Nothing is more important than celebrating the life of Smith tomorrow, and that is everything he deserves for what he achieved.

Some things are bigger than football, and this is certainly one of them with an emotional day surely ahead for everyone involved and around the club.

Wilson has been leading the thorough search and is surely closing in now, with final terms and contracts to be agreed.

Once that is all done, all eyes will move to Sunday’s game against Hibs at Hampden Park, although van Bronckhorst certainly won’t be in the dugout at this stage.
