Admin issues could stop van Bronckhorst being in charge of Rangers v Hibernian
Giovanni van Bronckhorst could be forced to sit in the stands on Sunday when Rangers play Hibernian at Hampden Park, according to the Scotsman.
The newspaper reports that the Gers are confident they can announce the 46-year-old Dutchman as their new manager before the Scottish League Cup semi-final showdown this weekend.
However it is understood that even if a deal is wrapped up before Sunday, “administrative and visa issues could limit him to a watching brief” at Hampden.

Please, not now
While we doubt that there’ll be any issue with van Bronckhorst getting a work permit due to his previous spell as a player in the UK for both Rangers and Arsenal, these potential administration issues are something that will need to be kept a close check on.
Whether that’s something to do with van Bronckhorst’s previous agreement with Guangzhou City, who he quit amid the COVID-19 pandemic in China, or something to do with international red tape, we don’t know.
However, we hope it’s just simple formalities when it comes to van Bronckhorst signing on the dotted line and being registered as our new manager.

At this stage, it doesn’t look likely that he’ll be patrolling the touchline at Hampden Park on Sunday when he play Hibs.
However, it would be a superb boost to the squad if Gio was at Auchenhowie and watching over the likes of David McCallum and Jermain Defoe as they run first-team training.
Rangers have to win this game on Sunday and even if van Bronckhorst isn’t in charge, just having him around could be massive.
In other Rangers news, a massive announcement could be made any time now.
