Rangers yet to agree deal with van Bronckhorst, unlikely to be in charge v Hibernian
Rangers are yet to agree a deal with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and he’s unlikely to be in charge against Hibernian on Sunday, according to Mikos Gouka.
The Dutch journalist, who writes for Rotterdam-based newspaper AD, reported via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that the Gers need more time to clinch an agreement with the ex-Feyenoord manager.
It is understood that due to this, he’s probably not going to be the manager when Rangers take on Hibs in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday.
No announcement yet
Despite 90min reporting that van Bronckhorst is in Glasgow and is putting the finishing touches to his contract, it seems as though Rangers still have some work to do to get the Dutchman back at Ibrox.
We’re very confident that van Bronckhorst will be Steven Gerrard’s replacement at Ibrox and it’s just going to be a matter of when and not if he comes in.
Van Bronckhorst still may need some reassurances about finances with the Gers announcing losses of £23.5million last season and he still will want to get a team of backroom staff on board to assist him at Ibrox.
Gio’s best off having someone in his team who’s previously worked at Rangers or at least has a lot of experience at coaching or managing in Scotland to help him out. Of course, he’s also done wonders at Feyenoord in the past and may want some of those back alongside him.
Van Bronckhorst seems to be the right man for Rangers and Rangers seem to be the right club for him as he aims to return to management after a short spell in China was cut short due to COVID.
In other Rangers news, a Celtic director has apologised for what he said about the Gers in an obituary for Walter Smith.
