Rangers confident van Bronckhorst will agree to be new manager today

Rangers are confident they will reach an agreement with Giovanni van Brockhorst to be their new manager today (Wednesday), according to AD.

The Rotterdam-based newspaper reports on their website that van Bronckhorst, 46, wants to be Steven Gerrard’s successor at Ibrox after positive talks with the Scottish Premiership leaders.

It is understood that if van Bronckhorst is hired then he’ll need to assemble a new coaching team. His trusted assistant Jean-Paul van Gastel is reportedly unavailable as he’s now in charge of Guangzhou City in China.

AD adds that Rangers will make a decision on who will be Gerrard’s replacement today with ex-Gers player van Bronckhorst in pole position.

D-Day today

Is today the day? It sure sounds as though it is going to be.

Rangers haven’t rushed the process of replacing Gerrard but they have taken their time to ensure they have spoken to numerous candidates.

They needed to get a jog on really as on Sunday, they’ll play Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park. Next week, they play Sparta Prague in a make-or-break Europa League group stage clash at Ibrox.

Having van Bronckhorst in the dug out for both of those matches will be a massive boost, especially as he’s someone who’s proven himself at Feyenoord that he’s capable of producing the magnificent.

Gio ticks all the boxes for Rangers and we would be completely shocked if he’s not hired to be Gerrard’s successor in the coming days.

Ideally, they would have tied up a deal already and GvB would be in Scotland and coaching his new squad of players at Auchenhowie.

Of course, things aren’t always that simple but it’s been less than a week since Gerrard’s move to Aston Villa was confirmed and we cannot have any complaints if it’s made official today.
