Ronald Koeman not considered by Rangers as talks continue today

Rangers are not considering a move to hire Ronald Koeman as their new manager, according to Go Radio host Jo Hendry.

Writing via her personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning, the radio broadcaster reported that she’d been told that while Rangers are “in no rush to appoint” Steven Gerrard’s success, the process “isn’t going to drag on too long”.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst seems the most likely pick at this point but Koeman has also been linked with Diario Ole reporting the ex-Barcelona manager is in contention.

However, based on Hendry’s update, that’s not the case and Koeman was “never under consideration”.

It has to be Gio

Koeman may have managed at a high level in his career, taking charge of the likes of Barcelona, Ajax, Everton, Southampton, Benfica, Valencia, PSV and the Netherlands – but you won’t be adding Rangers to that list.

Koeman is someone with a high profile. He was a serial winner as a player, lifting league and European titles throughout his spells in the Netherlands and in Spain.

Rangers

As a manager, he’s also been successful in his homeland and in Spain, where he won the Copa Del Rey with Valencia.

However, he’s very much a man who’s on a downwards spiral in terms of his achievements and his performances at clubs.

At Barcelona and Everton, he was a massive failure.

While Rangers will be a different kind of job to those, we wouldn’t be too hopeful that he’d be able to get his career back on track at Ibrox.

As for van Bronckhorst, he’s very much a young manager who’s on the up and his past connections to Ibrox make him a perfect fit.

There’s no one but Gio in the minds of Rangers fans right now.

In other Rangers news, Gerrard has told Aston Villa’s chiefs to sign this player from the Gers.
