David McCallum could be in charge of Rangers clashes v Hibernian and Sparta Prague
David McCallum could be in charge of Rangers when they play Hibernian and Sparta Prague in their next two games, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on November 16 [page 49] that after an interim coaching team was made up by the club as they aim to replace Steven Gerrard, there’s a chance that Rangers youth chief McCallum, 44, will effectively be the manager for the Scottish League Cup semi-final with Hibs on Sunday and the Europa League group stage showdown with Sparta next Thursday.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst held talks with Rangers over the weekend but it is understood that an Ibrox source says the club are “comfortable and in control” of a process that will not be rushed.

Get Gio in now
It would be pretty shoddy work by Rangers if they don’t have a proper manager in charge of the games against Hibs and Sparta Prague.
They are not your run-of-the-mill matches – it’s not as though we’re playing against Ross County in the Premier League or playing in a Europa League group that’s a foregone conclusion.
These are massive fixtures.

On Sunday, a spot in the League Cup final at Hampden is at stake when the Gers take on Hibs.
After that, if we fail to beat Sparta Prague, we can basically say goodbye to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Hiring van Bronckhorst seems like such a no-brainer and we really shouldn’t expect the club to be dragging their heels right now.
Obviously we do not want them to rush the process but it’s been over a week since talk of Gerrard moving to Aston Villa rose up.
Someone needs to be in charge and getting to know the squad as soon as possible. No chances can be taken in these two matches.
In other Rangers news, there’s a new potential issue with hiring van Bronckhorst amid major COVID news in the Netherlands.
