BBC journo Chris McLaughlin hits back at Rangers fan over Edmiston Drive dig

BBC Scotland journalist Chris McLaughlin has hit out at a Rangers fan who asked him to tell him when he’s “set up on Edmiston Drive”.

As most Rangers fans will know, McLaughlin is still banned from Ibrox after a disagreement over the BBC journalist back in 2015.

With speculation suggesting Giovanni van Bronckhorst may be hired by the Gers on Tuesday, fan Michael Seafarer asked McLaughlin to keep him updated from Ibrox.

That prompted McLaughlin to reply on Twitter, saying: “Hi Michael. I honestly don’t mind the odd dig if it’s in any way funny or clever.

“You’re better than this.”

Brilliant

McLaughlin’s not a fan of that tweet but you’ve got to admit, it was a good one.

Rangers’ feud with the BBC has been going on for years with the national broadcaster still refusing to send their staff to Ibrox for matchdays or for any kind of media coverage.

McLaughlin’s at the heart of the feud and he’s always going to be a lightning rod for jokes and jibs from the Gers fanbase as long as he’s reporting on football.

As for van Bronckhorst, it sure seems as though he’s close to being appointed as the new Rangers manager.

The BBC are unlikely to have their reporters on the ground at Ibrox to welcome Gio back to Govan but there are plenty of other broadcasters and also the club’s official media partners who’ll provide us with all the coverage we need.

Rangers will play a blinder by hiring van Bronckhorst.

He ticks so many boxes and if he can get in the dugout for Sunday’s clash with Hibernian at Hampden Park, that’ll be a superb move by Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson.

In other Rangers news, Gerrard has told Aston Villa’s chiefs to sign this player from the Gers.
