Martin O’Neill suggests how Rangers could react after Steven Gerrard exit
Rangers are yet to appoint their new manager following the exit of Steven Gerrard who joined Aston Villa earlier this week.
If the reports are to be believed Giovanni van Bronckhorst is emerging as the leading candidate to replace Gerrard at Ibrox.
Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has suggested that it is hard to predict how Rangers would react following Gerrard’s departure.

Celtic are four points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment, and many Bhoys fans feel Gerrard’s departure will give their side hope to wrestle the league back from Rangers.
O’Neill has suggested that it can swing both ways for the Gers – either Rangers could do well in the next few weeks or they could suffer.
“You have to be aware of what is going on elsewhere, but you can’t let it dominate your thoughts,” said O’Neill, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Steven Gerrard has just moved on, and that might see Rangers doing very well in the next few weeks.
“Or the upheaval might see them suffer a wee bit, and they have a setback. At this stage, we don’t know for sure what the reaction is going to be.”
Can’t afford to gamble
We cannot afford to gamble here. Whatever be the feeling like, whatever Chris Sutton or others might say, the fact remains — Gerrard did an incredible job at Ibrox.
He took a dilapidated club that were floating in no direction and gradually picked up the pieces to make a strong unit. The timing may seem odd but he left at the club, when – a) Rangers are at top of the league and b) we can still progress to the next round of the Europa League.
The new manager has got a stable platform, and there’s no reason to believe why we can’t go on a run and win the title once again.
However, the appointment has to be spot on – be it Gio or Frank Lampard.
Considering our financial situation, a drop from the pedestal would be a catastrophe. In any case, we may have to sell a lot of our first team players to balance the books, and if the results don’t go our way, it could become a suffocating situation once again.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has shared “inside information” after being texted by an Ibrox-linked manager.
