Gennaro Gattuso’s camp tell Rangers why he does not want to be considered for manager’s job

Gennaro Gattuso’s camp have informed Rangers that the “timing is not right for him” to be appointed as manager of his old club, according to the Daily Record.

The Italian, 43, played 51 times for Rangers between 1997-98 during a storied playing career that saw him win two Champions Leagues with AC Milan.

He went on to manage the Italian giants, among others, and most recently took charge of Fiorentina in May before leaving just weeks later following a disagreement.

Gattuso was one of the early names linked with succeeding Steven Gerrard as Rangers boss following the Englishman’s defection to Aston Villa earlier this week.

However, his name has recently been taken away by many, and the Daily Record are now reporting that there is no interest from Gattuso to take the job due to the timing of it.

Best for both parties?

The early signs were that the ex-Rangers midfielder would relish the opportunity to take charge of the club.

The Daily Record initially reported that he wanted the job and was in talks with super-agent Jorge Mendes over potentially making it happen, with the fact his wife is Scottish a key reason for pursuing it.

However, it appears that there is no desire from Gattuso’s side anymore, while there was no suggestion that Rangers themselves were seriously considering the Italian.

On the face of it, there are probably more worthy candidates anyway.

Gattuso’s start to management has not been the most successful, failing to qualify for the Champions League in both of his seasons at Milan, something he repeated at Napoli during his one-and-a-half season stay.

In other Rangers news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared what Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s agent told him after Ibrox talks were held on Saturday.
