Frank Lampard interested in Rangers job

Rangers held positive talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Saturday, but the club are set to meet with other candidates as well.

According to reports from Glasgow Times, Frank Lampard is still not out of contention yet. The 43-year-old is vying with Gio for the vacant managerial role following the departure of Steven Gerrard who joined Aston Villa.

The report claims that Lampard is interested in making the move to Glasgow. Rangers, however, have cooled their interest in former Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

Head and Heart podcast, the official partner of Rangers FC, claimed yesterday that Lampard and Knutsen are not on the radar and that Gio has been given assurance for the managerial role.

However, it seems, Lampard is not out of the race yet, with Rangers looking to narrow down their search. The 43-year-old rejected the chance to join Norwich City, and he is keen to join Rangers instead.

Waiting game

Gio, obviously, is a favourite among the fans, and he is the leading candidate at the moment. But, Lampard won’t be a bad option either.

The only issue the fans seem to have with Lampard is his commitment towards the club. Like Gerrard, he can use Rangers as a stepping stone, and he could jump the ship whenever he likes if he gets a good offer from elsewhere in the future.

Having said that, Rangers have to be spot on with their decision. Gerrard has done a brilliant job at Ibrox, and we’re in a good position to win the title for the second time in a row.

On top of that, we can still progress to the next round of the Europa League. We can make it a memorable season, and we need an ambitious manager who has got a brilliant footballing style and vision.

Lampard hasn’t achieved anything as a manager, as yet, but he has shown a great desire to work with young talents.

At Chelsea, he gave opportunities to so many young academy talents, and that’s something we should look at in the next manager, considering we’re struggling with finances at the moment and may have to rely on academy talents to stabilise our finances in the long run.
