Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann, Billy Dodds tipped to join van Bronckhorst backroom staff at Rangers

Rangers want Giovanni van Bronckhorst to have someone on his coaching team who’s experienced in Scottish football if he’s hired, according to The Times.

Billy Dodds, Barry Ferguson and Neil McCann have been named as three former Rangers players who could join van Bronckhorst at Ibrox if the board decide to hire him to replace Steven Gerrard.

Jan Wouters worked with the Dutchman at Feyenoord and has previously been assistant manager for Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish at Ibrox. However, it is understood that he’s unlikely to be a part of the ew coaching team.

Getting the band back together

All signs seem to be suggesting that van Bronckhorst will be the next Rangers manager.

It’s been reported by multiple outlets that the Dutchman held positive talks with the Gers in London on Saturday.

Hopefully, he’ll be hired well before we play Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals at Hampden next Sunday because he’ll need some time to get settled and get to know his new squad first.

It’ll help him a lot if he’s able to bringing in one of the aforementioned ex-Gers to join his coaching team.

Ferguson, McCann and Dodds all have experience of coaching and managing in the Scottish leagues.

Ferguson is currently in charge of Alloa Athletic and Dodds is the manager of Inverness CT. McCann’s previously been in charge of Dundee and was caretaker at Inverness.

All of them have some experience of managing here in Scotland while van Bronckhorst does not. They are all more likely to be watching Rangers play due to their pundit commitments too.

That should help Gio settle in too. One of them would be great but due to Ferguson and Dodds being at clubs already, Sky Sports pundit McCann might be the most likely.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has shared “inside information” after being texted by an Ibrox-linked manager.
