Barry Ferguson: Rangers should be wary of losing Nathan Patterson to Aston Villa

Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers should be wary of losing Nathan Patterson to Aston Villa after Steven Gerrard left.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show [via the Scottish Sun], the former Gers man revealed his concerns for his former club and feels that some players could now try and force moves away.

However, he is mainly concerned about Patterson leaving to join Gerrard at Villa Park, despite Villa having Matty Cash and Gerrard preferring to play James Tavernier over the Scottish international.

When asked about what players could join Gerrard, he said: “Patterson, for me.

“Everyone talks about [Alfredo] Morelos, and listen, he’s scored a lot of goals, but Nathan Patterson is definitely one you’d be wary of losing.

“Not just Aston Villa either because I think a number of clubs would be looking at Nathan Patterson.”

Potential bad news ahead.

The 20-year-old has impressed for club and country in pretty much every game he has played.

The future for Patterson looks bright, and you would think that he will leave the Gers at some point.

However, you would hope that moment isn’t any time soon as he hasn’t really had a chance to show exactly what he can do for the Bears due to Tavernier’s presence.

Despite this, he has been described as “sensational” by David Tanner and looks to have a massive future ahead of him.

However, would Villa really be that interested in his signature?

They already have a quality right-back in Cash, and Gerrard didn’t actually play Patterson that often because of Tavernier’s presence.

So, even if he were to leave, you have to wonder if the right-back would even want to work under Gerrard again.

He genuinely might not want to, which could help the Bears keep him for a bit longer.
