Rangers players told Steven Gerrard exit announcement is about to be made
Rangers are set to make an announcement about Steven Gerrard’s future at Ibrox, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning, Campbell reported that “the Rangers players have been told to expect an announcement soon” as Gerrard edges closer to quitting Ibrox and being appointed in charge of Aston Villa.
Campbell adds that it looks as though Gerrard’s switch to Villa Park is “approaching the final stretch”>
All the best, Stevie
It’s not something we wanted to say, especially not now. But we’re wishing Gerrard all the best as he heads to Aston Villa and calls a day on his time at Rangers.
If anything, we’re glad that he’s going on good terms rather than being sacked or quitting acrimoniously.
Gerrard has been a lifeline for this club, taking Rangers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership, winning title number 55, going a league season unbeaten and twice defying the odds to take us to the Europa League’s last-16.
Gerrard has done an extraordinary job here and he deserves every bit of success he has in his future managerial career.
While some might argue that a move to Villa isn’t a step up, it is a step up in terms of the league he’s managing in and potentially increases the likelihood of him getting the job at Liverpool in the future.
Gerrard’s work isn’t done here at Ibrox and we wish he’d stay.
But when a manager does well, he’s going to be poached by richer and more powerful clubs than those in Scotland.
Good luck, Stevie.
