Fabrizio Romano: Villa preparing contracts for Gerrard as Rangers exit nears
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is edging closer to leaving Ibrox, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Daily Telegraph reported earlier today that Villa have agreed a deal to bring Gerrard as their new manager, following the sacking of Dean Smith.
The deal will be completed within the next 48 hours. Gerrard’s key backroom members Gary McAllister and Michael Beale will be joining him at Villa Park.

Romano has now claimed that Villa are preparing paperwork and contracts to appoint Gerrard.
Matter of time
According to reports from the Daily Record, Gerrard will become the highest-paid manager in Villa’s history and he has been promised a huge January transfer kitty by billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Eden.
Furthermore, a compensation package worth around £3million was agreed between both clubs.
Losing Gerrard at this stage of the season is a big blow for Rangers, but the Gers fans will understand that it is a big opportunity for him.
Gerrard will always remain as a hero at Rangers. He took charge of the club when they were miles behind Celtic, and the club were heading in no definite direction.
In three years at the club, he made them a competitive force in the league and won the Scottish Premiership title last season, breaking Celtic’s hegemony.
It seems it is now only a matter of time before he will be officially announced as Villa’s next manager.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has had his say on Gerrard leaving Ibrox.
