Barry Ferguson expresses shock after Rangers agree compensation for Steven Gerrard
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is close to joining Aston Villa as their next manager.
Going by the widespread reports, it seems a deal has been agreed by the Midlands club, and Gerrard is likely to take his backroom staff with him as well.
The Telegraph reported yesterday that Rangers have given Gerrard the permission to hold talks, after compensation has been agreed.

Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has expressed his shock after hearing the compensation package the Gers are about to receive for their title-winning manager.
According to Daily Record, a fee in the region of £3million is the most Rangers can secure for Gerrard.
“I’m very surprised. You look at Brendan Rodgers and his team and assistants, I think it was £9million,” said Ferguson.

Spot on
Rangers are struggling financially at the moment, and the club had a great opportunity to secure a maximum fee for Gerrard who has done incredible work at Ibrox over the past three years.
On top of that, Rangers are on the verge of losing their backroom staff as well. It hardly makes sense that they would demand such a measly fee, considering Gerrard still has two years left on his present deal.

Many had expected Gerrard to stay till the end of the season and help Rangers win their second SPFL title in a row, but it seems the offer was too tempting for him to turn down straightaway.
It could be a big gamble for Gerrard. If he turns out to be a flop, it could damage his reputation and could hamper his hopes of managing Liverpool someday after Jurgen Klopp leaves the post.
In other Rangers news, a move to Ibrox has been mooted for this ex-Gers star.
