Rangers watching St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark
Rangers are monitoring the contract situation of St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark closely ahead of the summer, according to Daily Record.
Steven Gerrard is planning for Allan McGregor’s potential retirement, and should the 39-year-old decide to hang up his gloves when his deal expires at the end of the season, then the Ibrox outfit will consider a number of alternatives, including Clark.
The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and English Championship and League One sides are also keen on him as he stalls on agreeing to terms of an extension.
Solid successor
McGregor is edging closer to retirement despite not showing signs of regression yet, and he could decide to call it a day this summer after a glorious career.
Rangers need a quality replacement with Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie yet to fully convince, and Clark is a suitable option.
He has earned a call-up to the Scotland squad due to his fine form this term and will be looking to make the first-choice berth in the national team his.
Clark helped St Johnstone lift the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup last term, making some outstanding saves in the penalty shoot-out against Rangers after drawing them level on the Saints’ way to clinching the latter.
Gerrard needs a strong character to come in should McGregor move on, and getting Clark for free would be massive given his huge quality.
With clubs down south also looking to recruit his services, the Bears must move quick to have a chance of pipping them to his signature.
In other Rangers news, the Bears are plotting January swoop for teenage striking sensation, five PL clubs in pursuit too.
